AT Consulting Company announces the successful completion of the first phase of the project to optimize the enterprise data warehouse of Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan.
In the first phase, the task of preparing the regulatory and financial reporting to the supervisory authorities and the National Bank on the basis of information from the data warehouse was completed. The transition to the automatic creation of reports from a single data source, significantly reduced the effort required to collect and process the information, as well as increased transparency in reporting.
In February 2007, the National Bank of Kazakhstan called in AT Consulting Group to optimize the existing enterprise data warehouse. During the project, the team consisting of consultants and experts of the bank decided to take on a number of tasks. First on the list was to build the reporting requirements for all key departments of the bank, defining the development plan for the storage of data and a change in its technical architecture. Secondly, to implement more than 60 reports and other prudential standards for transcripts and reports authorized by agencies and auditors, conducted by business analysis of the requirements for reporting, as well as analysis of existing processes to obtain mandatory reporting. Then, according to the analysis, they made the optimization model of the data warehouse and the existing business processes of interaction with the storage source systems, together with the changes in the algorithms of data extraction from source systems such as corporate ABS, ABS retail, card system, implementing algorithms for discharge from the system online banking, mortgage database and SAP ERP. Finally, a set of measures was developed and carried out aimed at improving the quality of the data source systems. In a record for a project of this scale time (9 months), a joint team of consultants and specialists of AT Consulting of Halyk Bank, completed the integration of the data warehouse with all the major sources of information and implemented the required reporting.
According to the deputy chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan Naila Abdulina, "at this stage the first and most important step is made in building a unified corporate reporting system in the bank on the basis of the data warehouse. The future plans of the bank are building management reporting, implementation of tax reporting, and application GAP-standards for liquidity management using data of the SAP BW warehouse."
"A project of this scale in the banking sector is a first in Kazakhstan and, perhaps, in the CIS countries, so the bank has no room for error: the implementation is bound to be successful. The main purpose of the introduction of storage is to provide a single source of information on all aspects of the bank, along with the tool to provide the required level of quality and development of the bank's business in general," said Askar Kusainov, deputy chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan.
The system is now transferred to the specialists of the joint team. In the short term, it is planned to build a system of management accounting and reporting for senior management of the bank on the basis of the data warehouse.
